Breakwater, Panama!

The Intrepid Jerry has sailed around 1150 nautical miles in seven days and has made it to Panama! This was our third longest passage ever, coming in after our two Atlantic crossings.

Land ho! Panama!

Our view is trending upward! This morning Mel’s eyes were startled awake by all of Panama’s beautiful verticalness, which includes a collection of huge cargo ships readying to transit the canal, as well as the breakwater, pictured here, protecting the Shelter Bay Marina. Aptly named! Mel is looking forward to a break from the water!

Unfortunately our landing was not without incident. The sargassum got us! (You may recall Mel’s previous sargassum exposé. She has good instincts about what sealife not to trust.) The port engine acted up and was difficult to shift into neutral as we were approaching the marina, so we had to anchor out. Greg dove the anchor and cleared off a little sargassum, and now it starts. But we are suspicious that is not the whole explanation. Alas, another thing for the “Boat Stuff To Do” list.

Greg preps to dive the prop as Mel worries about Vibrio and readies the Neosporin necessary for all the subsequent barnacle cuts. Jerry really needs his bottom cleaned!

Dinner last night: Brats that rolled all over the George-Foreman-type electric grill as we fought through a strong current and corresponding 8-ft seas.

We find a non-purple area to cross the current that wants to whisk us to Colombia

Entertainment: Taking a well-deserved nap!

Mel might not post for a while, but when she does, be prepared for completely different pics!
