Oct 15, 2025. 47 nm in 7.5 hrs. Had to tack a few times. Waves were fine, but winds in Long Island Sound were variable and blustery, ranging from 6 kts to up to 25 kts apparent (going upwind around 60 degrees) near the end. Reefed halfway through the trip. We did this about a day after a nor'easter blew through Massachusetts.

We got a mooring ball this time from Old Port instead of the city. More expensive, around $75/day. Our ball is directly across from Newport Yacht Marina, and on weekends we get to watch multiple weddings. The sailing season basically ended around Oct 19, and so in one day the boat population in the harbor was cut in half. The Newport Maritime Center closed, which means that we now have to haul our laundry all the way to the Stop n' Shop shopping center. This is not terrible, as this shopping area seems designed for cruisers: grocery store, hardware store, UPS store, laundromat, and cafe, all surrounding a parking lot right next to a park. Perfection!
