Marvin is SOLD!

So The Amazing Marvin has been sold!  Marvin is going to fantastic owners: Leopard fans who will show him off properly, especially in his beloved Bahamas!  The plans are apparently to rename the boat: Island Home, with his new Facebook page being: Island Home Sailing.  The Burnetts are thrilled for Marvin’s new owners, and we are thrilled about Marvin’s new name – because he certainly was a home for us, for the brief time we were privileged to own him!

The Burnetts are thankful this time of year.  Well, sort of.  Mel announces the hand-off of Marvin with her heart all twisted up, which means to any doctor that she has no cardiac output and is therefore in dire straits.  As of today the Burnetts are officially “empty-nesters.”  This is an odd feeling.  Must be like the feeling just before death.  Premature for the forty-something adults; outright novelty for the kids.  Of course, our kids are used to novelty.  Ho-hum.

Unlike normal empty nesters, of course, the Burnetts have decided to commission a (very expensive-but-worth-it) model of Marvin to be built via Captain Brad of the awesome SD modelmakers.  We will keep you posted as to the result!  Mel plans to snuggle with her new model at night, like a Teddy bear.  Captain Brad – build it strong! Of course, there is no guarantee that the Burnetts won’t try to commission Captain Brad to make models of their children once they fly the coop.  We will certainly provide you with the original drawings for the kids, Captain Brad, but we will claim minimal responsibility for any subsequent deviations from the plan!

Mel has been negligent of the blog lately, as she has been sorting over 6000 pictures and crying a lot.  Tears of joy, of course, except for that little blip in Gran Canaria.  That’s all it is now, by the way – a huge boating disaster, for sure, but by now just a little blip on an otherwise amazing experience.  You try picking out a few pictures out of 6000 that are suitable to display on your walls to reflect about 750 continuous days of unique, awesome experiences and see how well you fare!  The only respite from Mel’s grief-joy comes when she sees her kids get excited about their structured after-school activities and when she talks to her future colleagues about her new job.  That’s right, folks – Mel is excited to go back to work and kick a$$ and take names, neurologically speaking.  Plans are in place to decorate her future doctor’s office and home with pictures of the trip.  Well, if Mel can decide on anything.

She has only made it through a fraction of the pictures for you, but here are some of our top sunset pictures.  Click on any picture to blow it up!  This may be a sunset for us and our adventures on Marvin, but sh!t, it was beautiful, wasn’t it?

I personally would have kept the name Marvin, although I understand wanting to chage a boat’s name. We have been burdened with the dubiously stripper-sounding name Wild Vanilla. Even the guys from Customs and Border Patrol make fun of it. So we are making an honest woman of our Dix Harvey 550 and renaming her Taika. Keep an eye out for us in the e-universe as we plan to leave in June with our two girls. If I can blog half as well as you, I will be quite proud, but I do think our daughter’s you tube channel, SV Taika, will be more fun. Keep blogging and I will keep reading. Just remember, keep calm and shuffle the cards against humanity! 😄
